On superannuation as Chairman, Steel Authority of India (SAIL) a Maharatna company of the Government of India, Mr. V S Jain was at once appointed as the Member of the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) of India since March 2008. PESB advises Government of India on appointments of Board level directors to the federal public sector undertakings.

Mr. Jain began his professional career with Indian Oil Corporation, the largest petroleum company in the country, where he spent 26 years in various capacities. He was responsible for financial strategies and implementation thereof, and also financial appraisal of projects. As Executive Director of the Organization, his responsibilities included international negotiations for procurement of crude and petroleum products. He also contributed considerably in formulating the corporate policies and developing plans for the organization. Mr. Jain was also associated with Jindal Group for 1Yz years as MD & CEO of Jindal Stainless Limited which is a largest producer of stainless steel in the country.

Mr Jain is 65 years old. He has keen interest in travelling and reading. Mr Jain is keenly interested in community development. As President of the Asian Games Village Society, his residential colony, he was instrumental in developing a Community Centre and bringing harmony amongst residents of different faith and taste. While in SAIL, Mr Jain emphasized and put greater focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by promoting community and social development schemes.
